Achievments of Nelson Mandela

  •  was qualified in law at the University of Witwatersrand in 1942
  • during his years in prison became a potent symbol of resistance as the anti-apartheid movement
  •  Mandela was elected President of the ANC in 1991
  •  he won Nobel Peace Prize in  1993
  •  he was elected the first President of South Africa in 1994

 July 18, 1918  -  born in Transkei, South Africa on
1942 - was qualified in law at University of Witwatersrand
1944 -   joined the African National Congress
after 1948- was engaged in resistance against the ruling National Party's apartheid policies
1956-1961 -  went on trial for treason  
1961- was acquitted
1960 -banning of the ANC (African National Congress)
1962 -Mandela was arrested for first time
1964-  was sentenced to life imprisonment.
1964 - 1982 -  imprisonment in two different prisons
1990 -  was released 
1991 -  was elected President of the ANC
1993 - won  Nobel Peace prise
1994 - first president of South Africa
